What do we do?
During the summer we perform our lively Brazilian-rooted sound at festivals and events in Stroud, Gloucestershire and beyond. We are hoping to make the sound even bigger and more exciting next year so are looking for more people to join us – it could be you!
How to join the band
We start our winter practice season in September, during which our leader Andy will teach us new rhythms and techniques and we’ll develop our repertoire for 2012. Autumn is therefore a great time to join, as we can teach samba from the basics for people with little or no experience, as well as offering scope for the experienced sambista.
If you are aged 16 or over you are welcome to come along for a trial. We can offer you four 2-hour workshops (on consecutive Wednesday evenings) with no obligation. After the introductory sessions, if you’d like to continue and Andy is happy that you are on the right track, you can become a member.
We expect our members to attend practice regularly and pay membership fees of £3.00 per week (slightly less if you choose direct debit) to cover the cost of the practice venue, our van, maintenance of the instruments etc. You will also need to be available for some gigs in the summer months.
